FTTA Fiber Connectivity for 4G and 5G Cell Sites
Waterproof CPRI patch cords, hybrid fiber-power cable and outdoor boxes that connect the baseband unit to the radios on the tower.
What FTTA replaces
Fiber to the antenna (FTTA) replaces coaxial cable between the baseband unit (BBU) and the remote radio units (RRU or AAU) with fiber. Signal loss drops, the cable on the tower gets lighter, and the BBU can sit further away, which makes centralized C-RAN designs possible.
| Cell-site point | Products |
|---|---|
| BBU to tower | Hybrid fiber-power cable carries fiber and DC power in one armored cable. |
| Tower junction | Outdoor distribution boxes split the trunk into individual radio links. |
| Radio connection | Waterproof CPRI patch cords plug into the RRU or AAU. |
